Mnarani Beach Cottages
Mnarani Beach Cottages is a nice, personal little boutique hotel located on a quiet and beautiful beach in Nungwi on the northern tip of Zanzibar. Mnarani offers great value accommodation and is one of our most popular hotels in Zanzibar. The hotel is of middle class and not a luxury hotel but it is very well maintained and has its own beach, pool, restaurant and bar and offers activities like sailing and canoeing. The hotel is on a cliff just above the beach with a long jetty / boardwalk with sun loungers, hammocks and swings for the kids overlooking the Indian Ocean. The hotel also has a nice spa where you can book massages and other treatments.
Accomodation
The hotel has rooms in five categeroies plus a honeymoon suite.
Standard garden view and standard sea view room. The hotel’s ten standard rooms are available with garden vierw and with sea view. The standard rooms are nice but quite small. All rooms have their own toilet with shower. The standard rooms have a small veranda overlooking the hotel’s garden or out to the sea. Standard rooms can be booked as double or twin rooms but not triple rooms.
Deluxe sea view room. The hotel’s deluxe room is set in a three-story building facing the sea. The deluxe rooms all have a veranda or balcony with sea views. The rooms are larger than the standard rooms and have a bedroom plus a small kitchenette and a bathroom with toilet pch shower. The kitchenette has a sink, kettle and a fridge but no hotplates, so you can not cook in the room.
Superior sea view room. The hotel’s superior sum offers a free view of the sea in small houses with two rooms in each. The superior rooms are on two floors with a living room and small kitchenette on the ground floor and a bedroom on an open sleeping loft. On the ground floor there is a sofa bed and an extra bed can be inserted so that it can accommodate four people in a room. Two of the superior rooms have an interconnected door and are perfect for larger families who want to live together. Rooms have veranda and balcony with sea view. The kitchenette has a sink, kettle and a fridge but no hotplates, so you can not cook in the room.
Family apartments (garden view). The hotel has four family apartments, two with two bedrooms and two with three bedrooms. The apartments are large and spacious with a large living room/kitchen area in the open plan area and own toilet/shower for each bedroom. The kitchen has a sink, kettle and a fridge but no hotplates, so you can not cook in the room. The apartments have large verandas or balconies.
Suites. The hotel’s two suites are located at the top of the house with the deluxe rooms. The suites have a bedroom, living room and a large bathroom. Suites have a balcony with sea views. The hotel also has a honeymoon suite located next to the superior rooms. The honeymoon suite is in a separate house and is on two floors with an open sleeping loft.
Facilities
The hotel has a pool that is child friendly with a basic part and a little deeper. The swimming pool is shaded, which makes the water cooler than in the ocean and cools a sunny and hot day. The hotel’s restaurant exit is right next to the pool and bar. There is wireless internet in the hotel but only in the reception and the restaurant. We have experienced that the signal is best at the reception. All rooms have fan and AC.
The hotel’s beach is just below the wooden bridge and is easily accessible via a staircase. There are quite heavy tidal differences on Zanzibar and at low tide water it is difficult to swim in the ocean because the water goes out long.
